Family Matters
My wife, Christina, and I both grew up in Charlotte, NC. We met in middle school at age twelve and… the rest is history! After graduating from neighboring universities in the Triangle, we moved back to Charlotte and adopted our dog Echo around the start of the pandemic. In October of 2023, after being together over 10 years, we said “I do” in front of our families and close friends.
Our families are still in the Charlotte area, so we love spending quality time with our parents and siblings so frequently.
Inspired By
My parents. Of the many, many lessons I’ve learned from them, the most impactful have been: 1) anything worth doing is worth doing the right way, and 2) focus only on the things that I can control. These are two of my guiding principles in life. It’s probably not a coincidence that those principles fit nicely into an evidence-based investment approach!
Most Likely To Spend A Spare Hour
Planning a trip or activity. My friends would agree that I’m the planner of the group, a skill that I inherited from my mom. I’m always the first to put my hand up to plan the golf trip or book the beach house. I have a backlog of bucket list trips for which I’ve planned entire itineraries without definitive travel dates. A few that I would like to knock out sooner rather than later are Patagonia, Italy, and Iceland.
First Job
My first job was as a lifeguard at a local pool, where I learned the importance of focus, responsibility, and quick decision-making under pressure. While the setting was very different from a trading desk, the core skills—constant vigilance, accountability for others’ well-being, and the ability to stay calm and act decisively—are directly applicable to my role as a portfolio manager. Today, I bring that same level of discipline and attention to detail to managing client portfolios and ensuring their investments align with HIG’s evidence-based approach and their financial goals.
