Alec is Head of ETF Growth and Advisor Partnerships at Longview Research Partners, where he works with advisory firms nationwide to put evidence-based investing into practice. He helps advisors evaluate where Longview’s strategies may fit in client portfolios and work through the practical questions of portfolio construction, taxes and implementation.
Before joining Longview, Alec spent nearly six years at Dimensional Fund Advisors, working across investment solutions and strategic client engagement. He helped shape the firm’s active ETF offering, supported some of its largest advisory relationships, and developed educational resources for advisors. He also brings firsthand experience advising high-net-worth families on investments, taxes and estate planning.
His earlier experience includes an Asset and Wealth Management Summer Analyst role at J.P. Morgan. Alec graduated with distinction from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he studied finance, and is a Level III candidate in the CFA® Program.
Alec is based in Austin, Texas, and visits St. Louis regularly.
I grew up in Western Springs, a western suburb of Chicago, and have called Austin home for more than six years. I’m a Midwesterner at heart with a Texas address, and a proud Indiana Hoosier, which means I’ve spent most of my life explaining what a Hoosier actually is.
My first stock was a gift from my grandpa.
Growing up, I loved snowboarding the small hills of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, usually dressed head to toe in Quiksilver. Knowing that, my grandpa bought me shares of the company. I still have the original paper stock certificate.
Every so often, he asks whether that investment has made me a billionaire yet. Not quite. Let’s just say the certificate is worth considerably more to me as a keepsake than as an investment.
These days, I sleep better owning thousands of companies rather than betting on one. Thanks for the early lesson in diversification, Gramps. Love you!

The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish. I enjoy hearing how thoughtful people approach decisions, challenge assumptions, and work through difficult problems. It’s about as close to having a collection of great mentors as you can fit into a commute.
Anything by Morgan Housel, Scorecasting by Tobias Moskowitz and Jon Wertheim, The Winner’s Curse by Richard Thaler, and Range and Inside the Box by David Epstein.
I love books that challenge conventional wisdom and change how you think about the world. I’ll take a physical book over a Kindle any day, preferably with a pen nearby and plenty of room for margin notes.
I love to play golf (still Taking the Long View on my handicap) and have closely followed baseball my whole life. Picking a team is trickier. My mom is a Cubs fan and my dad is a Yankees fan, so to keep the peace, I stay diversified across both leagues. I’ve made it to 14 of the 30 MLB ballparks so far, and I’m trying to hit ’em all.
